New Principal of De La Salle College, Malvern

Mr Peter Houlihan, currently Assistant Principal at Marcellin College, Bulleen, has been appointed the first lay principal of De La Salle College, Malvern, Victoria. He succeeds Brother Paul Rogers who will complete his term as Principal at the end of Term 2. Peter will commence his new role at the start of the 2014 academic year. For Terms 3 and 4 of 2013, Mr Brendan Ellis, formerly head of the senior school at Xavier College, will be Acting Principal. Full details of this new appointment can be found by clicking here.

Brother Oliver O'Leary Turns 100!

Brother Oliver O'Leary became the first Brother in the District of Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Papua New Guinea to reach 100 years of age. Brother Oliver reached this milestone on 20 May 2013.

Family, friends and Brothers gathered at Villa La Salle in Southport, Queensland, to join with Brother Oliver on this special occasion. Congratulatory messages from the Queen, the Governor-General of New Zealand and the Prime Minister of New Zealand were read out. Speeches were made by Brother David Hawke (General Councillor), the Anglican Archbishop of New Zealand (a personal friend) and Brother Patrick Lynch responded on behalf of Brother Oliver. Brother Vial Tran Van Hue


Brother Vial Tran Van Hue died at Villa La Salle, Southport, on Saturday, 23 March. He had been bedridden for several months, but his death was sudden. Brother Vial was aged 95.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Brother Vial was celebrated at the Chapel of St John Baptist de La Salle, Oakhill College, Old Northern Road, Castle Hill, on Tuesday, 26 March at 3.00 pm. A private cremation followed the Mass. Brother Vial's ashes will be interred at the Brothers' Cemetery at Oakhill.
 

Preparations Underway for International Lasallian Youth Gathering at World Youth Day in Rio in 2013

Lasallians are preparing to gather in Rio de Janiero, Brazil for World Youth Day (WYD) and the International Lasallian Youth Meeting, known by its acronym in Portuguese, EIJL.

WYD runs from July 23-28, 2013. Prior to that gathering, the Lasallian District of Brazil-Chile will welcome young Lasallians, aged 16-35, to the ILYG from July 20-22, 2013. It will be held at La Salle Niteroi, a school outside Rio de Janiero. Participants can stay overnight at La Salle Niteroi for the duration of both gatherings.
