Who’s involved in Lasallian Youth Ministry and what do they do?

James Camden
Lasallian Youth Coordinator Northern Region

24-year old, James Camden, is working full-time as one of two Youth Coordinators for the De La Salle Brothers.

James previously served as a part-time school based Lasallian Youth Minister for three years at Oakhill College, Castle Hill in Sydney. He has also been employed by St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Baulkham Hills as a Youth Music Minister during 2007 and 2008.

He has completed university studies with a Bachelor of Arts in Media & Communications, a Diploma in Journalism, Graduate Diploma in Education, and a Graduate Certificate in Religious Education.

James is also an old boy of Oakhill College, Castle Hill. His role in 2009 involves managing the Lasallian Youth Ministry Team, with Br Anthony Cummins, and the volunteer programs of the District. The Lasallian Youth Leader model is also a major priority in his ministry and he looks forward to having the initiative present in more Lasallian schools in his ongoing role.

Br Anthony Cummins
Lasallian Youth Coordinator Southern Region

Br Tony Cummins returns to full-time youth ministry in the District of Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea having completed three years as Campus Minister at De La Salle College in Auckland, as well as working at John Paul College (Rotorua) and Francis Douglas Memorial College (New Plymouth). Prior to his ministry in New Zealand, Br Tony spent two years as Campus Minister as Lasalle Catholic College, Bankstown, after completing six years as Director of Vocations & Youth Ministry for our district.

Having clocked up over 25 years as a Brother, he has taught in six Lasallian schools, worked in Campus Ministry in two of them and has been involved in programs with and for young people across our district, as well as for the Pacific Asia Regional Conference (PARC) over the last ten years.
 
An old boy of De La Salle College, Malvern (Vic), Br Tony studied education through the Australian Catholic and Melbourne Universities, as well as gaining qualifications in Pastoral Counselling and Human & Spiritual Formation.
 
In his new role as Lasallian Youth Coordinator for the southern region, he looks forward to working alongside his colleague in Sydney - James Camden - as well as Youth Ministers and young people in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and New Zealand.

 

LASALLIAN YOUTH MINISTERS
In 2009 the Lasallian Youth Ministers will assist and support the Lasallian Youth Coordinators across the District to educate and promote the Lasallian ethos through a range of youth activities and programs including:

Facilitation of Lasallian Youth Leader (LYL) Program
• Facilitation of Lasallian Youth for Justice (LY4J) groups

• Lasallian Encounter Day
• Annual Lasallian Leaders seminar

• Promotion of volunteer programmes
• Lasallian Youth Ministry publications: Spirit of the Star

Karina Anthony works part time as a Lasallian Youth Minister at De La Salle College, Ashfield. She is relatively new to the Lasallian family having not attended one of our schools. However, she has been drawn into the charism through her involvement as a Share the Mission volunteer during the first half of 2009 at John Paul College, Rotorua in New Zealand. Karina is highly involved in her parish and has been a youth leader for many years. Karina brings a great wealth of knowledge and experience to the team and has completed a Bachelor of Arts at Sydney University. Karina started on the team in 2009.

Rebecca Barrett works part time as a Youth Minister at Holy Spirit College, Lakemba. She is a former student of St Michael’s College, Henley Beach in South Australia. Rebecca has been a member of the International Council of Young Lasallians and brings with her wide experience in youth ministry and the greater Lasallian mission. Rebecca is a proud mother and thoroughly enjoys working with young people. Bec started on the team in 2007.

 

Des Calleja works five days a week as a Youth Minister sharing his time between De La Salle College, Malvern and St Bede's College, Mentone. Des has been involved in youth ministry for the last 13 years working as a volunteer youth worker at his local parish, St. Patrick's, Mentone. As a student Des attended St Bede's College and has been fortunate enough to attend a number of World Youth Days including the last one in Sydney. Des looks forward to developing youth programs in the Melbourne schools. Des started on the team in 2008

Josh Dwyer works part time as a Youth Minister at De La Salle College, Revesby. He is a former student who graduated as the College Captain in 2007. Josh during his time in a Lasallian school attended Lasallian Encounter, the Lasallian Leaders Seminar and the Australian Lasallian Youth Gathering. He was also a Share the Mission volunteer in 2008 working and living at De La Salle College, Mangere, Auckland. Josh is very excited about finally being able top contribute to the Lasallian mission with the students at Revesby. Josh started on the team in 2009.




Joshua Foulis
works part time as a Youth Minister at St Michael's College, Henley Beach in South Australia. Josh brings to his role a range of skills that he has developed through many programs over the past 4 years. As College Captain of St. Michael's in 2006 he attended the Lasallian Leaders Seminar and was pin-pointed as a potential for the first Youth Minister position in Adelaide. Josh has led teams to PNG and Balgo Hills and in 2009 will travel to Rome for a meeting of Lasallian Youth from around the world. Josh started on the team in 2007.



Desma Kombe
works full time as a Lasallian Youth Minister for the Port Moresby region of Papua New Guinea. This position encompasses four Lasallian schools all with youth ministry programs that are quickly developing. Desma was a College Leader of Hohola Youth Development Centre in 2007 and travelled to Sydney for the Lasallian Leaders Seminar. Desma had shown great interest in the Lasallian mission and had previously attended the Asia Pacific Lasallian Youth Congress in Singapore as well. Desma will build some structure for the development of Lasallian Youth Leaders in Port Moresby during her employment. Desma started on the team in 2009.

James Limbrey works part time as a Youth Minister at La Salle Catholic College, Bankstown, in South-West Sydney. He is a former College Captain of Oakhill College, Castle Hill and attended the Lasallian Leaders Seminar in 2008. James comes from a string of family members who were actively engaged in Lasallian Youth Ministry activities during their time at and after school. He was invited to assist during the 2009 Papua New Guinea Youth Ministry Roadshow and was well-recived by the young people he came into contact with. James enjoys playing in a band and brings enormous skill to the team. James started on the team in 2009.

Andrew Malele works full-time as a Youth Minister at De La Salle College, Mangere, in Auckland. He is also a former student of the College that he has returned to work at. Andrew has been working in youth work and youth ministry for many years in his community and has juggled university studies at the same time. He is excited about being back in a school setting and developing the Lasallian Youth programs with the students. As a senior student, Andrew was a participant at the Lasallian Leaders Seminar in 2003. Andrew started on the team in 2009.

 

Leodrina Williams works full-time as a Youth Minister at Francis Douglas Memorial College in New Plymouth, New Zealand. Leodrina was born into a Catholic family of five in Zimbabwe, where she attended a Dominican Catholic School before making New Zealand her home in 2001. She came to the Lasallian Youth Ministry Team with many years of experience in youth ministry and a great desire to learn and use the Lasallian tradition in her next challenge. She hopes to continue to build the values and awareness of faith, service and community at New Plymouth during the year. Leodrina started on the team in 2009.
