'Our Lasallian Compass' Welcomes New Sydney Area Lasallians to the Family

In mid-February, educators new to Lasallian schools in the greater Sydney area gathered for a formation program which introduced them to the Lasallian heritage and to one another.

'Our Lasallian Compass,' the induction program facilitated by the Formation for Mission team of Lasallian Mission Services, was held this year on 17 at Holy Spirit Catholic College Lakemba and on 18 February at Bankstown Sports Club."The move to La Salle Centre from our old offices on Meredith Street late last year has been a blessing in many ways, but it has meant that we can no longer host large groups internally. Our team are enjoying the resulting opportunity to collaborate with others, and we were particularly grateful to Petah (Foran) and Phil (Scollard) at Holy Spirit College for their generous offer to host one of the 'Our Lasallian Compass' days this year," said Director of Mission Integration Brother Peter Ryan.

Over thirty participants across two days engaged with one another and with the living Lasallian heritage through presentations, primary source material, conversation, and interactive activities. "With this program, our team feel privileged to introduce new members of our Lasallian family to the living story of which they are now part," explained Director Emeritus of Formation Brother John Cantwell. "We invite them to reflect on their own journey and to make connections between their daily work and De La Salle's belief that the work of education is God's work, God's mission. Doing this while meeting people from other schools is an important initial experience of the larger Lasallian community."

The Formation for Mission Team is also involved in presenting similar programs in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth this year. "Every opportunity to meet new Lasallians and work alongside dedicated local leaders is a privilege," according to Philippe Dulawan, Assistant Director, Young Lasallians. "We look forward to visiting these communities soon and helping new Lasallians learn to navigate in their new roles with our charism as a guide."
