Announcement: Lasallian Volunteers 2021

Posted by Joanne Nehme on 2 December 2020

Dear Lasallians,

It is with great pleasure we announce the Lasallian Volunteers (LVs) for 2021.  Despite the challenges of 2020, our Lasallian network has responded positively to our call to service. Since the origins of the LV program in 2004, our Young Lasallians have displayed a steadfast commitment to this call and in 2021, we are delighted to welcome 12 LVs and their families to our Lasallian Family across Australia and PNG.  We are hopeful that the experience will enrich their lives and the lives of those they encounter.

In an exciting initiative, we will be piloting an in-country model of volunteering in PNG, with 4 LVs serving the communities of Hohola and Jubilee. In Australia, La Salle College, Middle Swan and Luurnpa Catholic School, Balgo will be hosting 3 LVs each.  Finally, Scarborough Catholic College, and yourtown, Deception Bay will play host to 2 LVs.

Our sincere appreciation is extended to all Principals, Directors of Mission, Site Supervisors, Brothers, staff and Youth Ministers across our network of schools, for their involvement in the promotion, selection and interview process. Thank you for your unwavering support of the LV program and for promoting this opportunity throughout your respective communities.

We also acknowledge the staff at St Bede's College, Mentone, for continuing to the fly the Alumni Lasallian Flag, with the inclusion of Kyle Goodwin, class of 2017, joining the program.

The Young Lasallians Team continues to evolve, in 2021 this will now include the LVs alongside the Lasallian Youth Ministers, a formalization of what has developed in recent years. Lydia Avia-Aumua, Associate Director of Young Lasallians, Young Lasallians Coordinators and cohort leaders; Maddy Forde, Damian Khoury and Sebastian Duhau, will accompany the LVs throughout 2021. Maddy will be responsible for Middle Swan and Balgo, Damian will support Scarborough and Deception Bay and Sebastian will support Hohola and Bomana.

Finally, as we begin planning for the induction and formation programs in January 2021, our Young Lasallian Team looks forward to accompanying the LVs on their journey of Faith, Service and Community.  May the peace and joy of the birth of Christ be with you always.
