I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Peter Hill to the position of Director of Schools for the Diocese of Wollongong.
With over 30 years experience working in Catholic Education, Peter is currently Director Employee Services and a member of the Catholic Education Leadership Team in the Archdiocese of Brisbane, a position he has held since 2011. Prior to this appointment Peter was Executive Director of Schools for the Diocese of Bathurst. He has also held the role of Executive Director Mission Leadership with Mater Health Services and as a Principal in a Brisbane Catholic school.
Peter is a man of deep faith and is an active member of his Parish. He identifies his Catholic faith as fundamental to his growth as a person and a Catholic leader. Peter sees education and formation as being critical to the proclamation of the Gospel, with the liberating power of education a key part of the ministry of the Catholic Church.
With Masters from ACU in both System Leadership and Educational Leadership, Peter also holds a Graduate Diploma of Arts Religious Education, a Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Teaching. Ongoing professional learning is important to Peter, having completed the Company Directors Course with the AICD. He has been involved with KU Leuven Faculty of Theology and the Enhancing Catholic Schools Identity Project as well as a leadership program with the London Business School.
Peter participated in a rigorous independent selection process that attracted a large number of experienced applicants from across Australia. The Selection Committee which advised me was comprised of senior people who understand Catholic Education and our Diocesan context; and included a Director of Schools and a former Director of Schools from other dioceses. We were assisted in this process by an independent external consultant.
Peter takes over from the significant legacy forged by the retiring Director Mr Peter Turner. I take this opportunity to congratulate and welcome Peter Hill as our new Director. Peter is married to Josephine and they have two children. Peter will take up this appointment in January 2020.
Most Rev Brian G Mascord BISHOP OF WOLLONGONG
