Association Updates from Across the Lasallian Family

Each month the Co-Secretaries of Association in the Secretariat of Association and Mission for the Lasallian Family share a newsletter with reflection questions that highlight a different District, Region, or Lasallian (Brother or Partner), and the experience of Association. The newsletters offer a wonderful glimpse into the reality of Association for Mission being lived out in a beautifully diverse and inspiring way around the globe.

Association is a common thread that unites all Lasallians regardless of the type of educational institution and therefore must be explained, explored, and enriched in order to ensure the mission into the future. [Association] represents the link that unites all those committed to the Lasallian Mission (Circular 461, 2010).

From the foundation of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, Association for Mission has played a critical role in ensuring success and sustainability. As the Institute has grown and the Lasallian Family has developed, the Mission around the world has become more dependent on Association. Association has also allowed for the movement of the Holy Spirit to continue to call Brothers and Lasallians to the Lasallian Vocation in all of its manifistations.

The 45th General Chapter mandated "that the Institute support and strengthen a strategic network for association at every level of the Institute" (Proposition 6, Circular 469, Nov 2014). The Chapter affirmed "its global commitment to association for educational service with the poor in line with the spirit of Circular 461, Associated for the Lasallian Mission...an act of HOPE. It asks that efforts being made in this area in various parts of the Institute be evaluated, supported and enhanced..." (Proposition 5, Circular 469, Nov 2014),

In order to build that network and offer ongoing reflection and sharing of best and next practices we hope these monthly newsletters will provoke thinking and planning for the journey of Association at all levels for all Lasallians. They are a way to provide a snapshot of the gift of Association to the Lasallian Family.

Knowing our foundation and history, reflecting on current best thinking and understanding, and inviting dialogue and creativity about the future is imperative for furthering Association. As ever, Brothers and Lasallians must be open to be responsive to needs. Let us begin the conversation about the needs for Association and how we honor our foundation and plan for our future.

We invite Lasallians from ANZPPNG to enjoy these newsletters. We hope they provide moments of reflection and dialogue as we journey together toward belonging, vocation, commitment and mission. Please be in touch if you would like to offer a reflection, or highlight a program or good practice. association@lasalle.org
