Blessing of the Stone for new Founder's Statue at Mangere

De La Salle Brothers from Auckland joined with parents, teachers and students at De La Salle College Mangere earlier this month, for the 'Blessing of the Stone' for a new statue of our Founder, St John Baptist De La Salle.

College Chaplain, Marist priest, Fr Brian Pendeville joined with local Maori elders in blessing the new stone- an amazing piece of travertine marble from Italy.

The statue will be sculpted by Michael Pervan from the Studio of John the Baptist in Takapuna in Auckland.

The studio is dedicated exclusively to sacred art and has been commissioned by various dioceses around New Zealand and overseas.

The De La Salle Mangere community has appealed for financial help towards the project, with all donations tax deductible.

The college is hoping to unveil the new statue later this year.
