Dear Lasallian Colleagues,
I do hope that the year has begun well for you all in your respective schools.
My name is Maria Haggett and I am chair of the Program Planning Committee for APLEC 2019, being held in Melbourne from April 14-16 this year.
Brother Tony Cummins and Ria Greene are the two other members of the committee and we are excited to offer you or a member of your staff the opportunity to present a workshop at APLEC 2019.
The Theme "Educating for Life" draws on the imperative of John 10.10: "I have come that you may have life and have it to the full". This simple term, 'fullness of life' affirms our shared belief in the inherent dignity of each person and underpins the project of 'Human and Christian Education' founded over 300 years ago.
The Lasallian mission takes place in a range of contexts, where individuals and communities need to respond to many of the following challenges:
Political and/or religious oppression
Discrimination based on gender, sexuality and ethnicity.
Consequences of unsustainable industrial practises
In all parts of the Asia Pacific, Lasallian education (in traditional or non-traditional settings) is both a spiritual and an emancipatory endeavour.
As educators, we aim to create conditions where young men and women can look to a hope-filled future for themselves and their communities, living life "to the full".
The conference is designed with three distinct movements, based on the motif of the "Journey to Emmaus". I have included a precis in the table below.
We already have a number of people wanting to give workshops, and spaces at the conference are filling fast.
However, the committee recognises the importance of hearing the voices of educators who are "at the coalface".
If you, or any members of your community are coming to the conference and would like to present on a particular initiative or issue from which we could all learn, we would love to hear from you.
Perhaps there is someone who hasn't registered from your school yet, but has a great story to tell.
We all know that presenting at conference is a great way to develop aspiring school leaders.
So much is going on in our schools that is worth celebrating, and perhaps this is the chance for someone to share a great Lasallian story.
All workshop submission are due on or before March 1st. The attached from can be filled out and sent back to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact us directly on this or the above email, or at St Bede's College on 03 9582 5999.
The conference is shaping up to be a wonderful celebration of our Lasallian heritage, as well as our Lasallian future.
