It is with deep regret that the planning committee for the Lasallian Educators' Conference (LEC) in 2021 announce that the conference has been cancelled. This decision was not taken lightly but was made in the light of statements from the Australian Prime Minister and Qantas suggesting it is unlikely that normal international travel to and from Australia (apart for travel to and from New Zealand) would start any time before mid-2021. Making the decision to cancel at this stage will mean that potential keynote and workshop presenters will not spend time preparing presentations, and it will not financially commit the Lasallian Mission Council, educational institutions and individuals to venue, accommodation and travel expenses which may not be refundable.
The next Lasallian Educators' Conference is scheduled to be held at Bankstown (NSW) from 18 April to 20 April 2023. Mr Greg Kopra, the Director of Formation for Mission for the District of San Francisco New Orleans, who had accepted an invitation to be the keynote speaker at LEC in 2021, has been invited to be the keynote speaker at LEC in 2023.
In the light of the cancellation of the Lasallian Educators' Conference in 2021, a decision has been made to hold the Lasallian Leaders' Gathering (LLG) in Adelaide from 28 February to 2 March next year. This gathering caters for a smaller group of Lasallians than the Lasallian Educators' Conference and will not involve international presenters. Further information regarding LLG 2021 will be available in September.
