Recently, the Year 12 students from De La Salle College, under the guidance of staff members Mr Tim Hogan and Mr Dave Murray, travelled to St Therese's School in Wilcannia, NSW. Wilcannia is a small town located within the Central Darling Shire in North Western New South Wales and St Therese's is a K-3 school.
At De La Salle College, the community holds strongly the Lasallian charism and the tradition of supporting communities in need and in creating positive change for those who have little hope.
It is important for the young men at De La Salle College Malvern to live out our Catholic Social teachings and to be the Lord's presence by committing themselves to the service of the poor and particularly, supporting our indigenous brothers and sisters when the support is needed. The students assisted with gardening painting and maintenance jobs and also helped with young students of St Therese with their lessons.
As a Lasallian community, we are also inspired by the work of St John Baptist de La Salle, who also committed himself to the service of the poor. To be Lasallian is to have compassion, to always have in view, the promotion of justice to support and work directly for the poor and those neglected by the rest of society.
