Exciting $10 million project commences at St Michael's College

St Michael's College is pleased to announce construction has now commenced on a new Senior Leaning Centre (SLC) at the Henley Beach Campus.

This exciting initiative has gained momentum since the 2016 announcement that South Australian Catholic schools would be moving Year 7 to Secondary in 2019. A Year 7 move had been an ongoing focus at both St Michael's College Board and leadership team level for some time, with significant planning having already been underway prior to the announcement from the South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools.

As announced in March, St Michael's College is one of 10 non-government schools across South Australia to have their application approved (for $10M) as part of the first round of the State Government low interest loans scheme announced in the 2016-17 State Budget.

This has been of major importance in terms of the College undertaking the Senior Learning Centre project. The SLC will not only enable increased capacity at the Secondary Campus, but also provide a contemporary, state of the art learning facility for staff and senior students and a welcoming environment for members of the wider St Michael's College community.

The Centre is modelled on a university hub design, and includes flexible leaning spaces that will cater for individual and group learning.

The stunning two-storey building includes 13 new teaching rooms, integrated technologies, a lecture theatre, hospitality space, staff areas, Student Services and a café.

The facility is adjacent to the main oval and provides new change rooms, community area, carpark, landscaped outdoor gathering and learning spaces, and a foyer dedicated to the history of the De La Salle Brothers.

Principal, John Foley is very excited about the $10 million project and described it as: "a significant enhancement of the Secondary campus facilities, providing an outstanding contemporary learning space for our senior students."

In partnership with Edge Architects and Partek Construction, the development is due for completion in Term 2, 2018.
