Inspiring Address by Student Leaders at St John's College Opening Year Mass

Newly-installed College Captains of St John's Regional College in Dandenong, Leon Kozoolin and Mikaela San Giorgio have won widespread praise across their school for an inspiring address they delivered during the Opening College Mass for 2016.

The two student leaders were asked to reflect on the college theme, "Blessed are the Merciful" and tie this in with Pope Francis' decision to declare this the Year of Mercy.

Leon reflected on the need for more mercy in the world at a time when minorities such as refugees and Indigenous people are in many cases experiencing discrimination.

Mikaela called on students at St John's to live out their lives with a selfless kind of love and to do this through fundraising efforts for Mission Action Day, aimed at helping more disadvantaged schools and communities in our Lasallian district.

Leon also reflected on the importance of student leaders being role models or beacons of mercy who are committed to showing love, respect and understanding towards others in their communities.

The full address by Leon and Mikaela can be found here.
