Year 11 students at La Salle Catholic College Bankstown attended their Senior Retreat at the Tops Conference Centre in Stanwell Tops. Students took the time to build upon their relationship with themselves, their community (peers and teachers) and God. This year's theme 'Touching Hearts' links to both our Lasallian charism and the notion of 'living out' the values and ideals of our community.
St John Baptist de La Salle uses the phrase 'touching hearts' 25 times in his writings, and on another 12 occasions, uses similar wording to this phrase: "Often ask God for the grace to touch hearts." St John Baptist de la Salle (Med 81.2)
Each day took on the theme to build on the bigger theme of 'Touching Hearts'.
Day 1: The topic of this day was 'MYSELF - Who am I?'. To explore this, students undertook a number of activities, including a Myers-Briggs personality test which examines ourselves and what makes us who we are.
Day 2: Lasallian Community - what it means to live in a community, this day culminated in a 'forgiving hearts' liturgy, which saw us seek forgiveness from those in our community. This day also brought with it a real sense of unity and communion often seen in Catholic and Lasallian communities.
Day 3: Focused on the theme of Legacy in this time students were given the opportunity to reflect on the positive legacy that they would leave at La Salle Catholic College, Bankstown.
All in all, it was a fantastic three days allowing participants to really reflect on what it means to be a Lasallian student.
Special thanks to the amazing retreat team Mrs Montouro (Year Coordinator), Miss Breda, Miss Bou-Simon, Mrs Newton, Mr Eagles, Mr Jacobs, Mr Valore, Miss Stefanie Breda and our fantastic night supervisor: Mr Mansour.
