The Lasallian Youth Minister for Papua New Guinea, Dagia Aka has been coordinating a series of weekend Encounter Camps for Year 9 students across a number of schools in Port Moresby.
The camps are effectively a Lasallian induction program for new Year 9 students at Jubilee Catholic Secondary School and La Salle Technical College.
Students learn about the unique Lasallian identity of each school from their youth minister and senior students to encourage them on their faith journey.
The camps are taking place over four weekends in March and April at Jubilee Secondary and three weekends in late April and in May at La Salle Technical College.
It has been a particularly exciting year for youth ministry in PNG with the highly successful Lasallian Student Leadership Seminar held in late February in Port Moresby.
The event was run entirely by Young Lasallians from PNG for the first time this year, whereas in previous years, some members of the youth ministry team from Australia travelled to PNG to help with the event.
The seminar helped equip prefects across three Lasallian schools in Port Moresby with the leadership skills needed to fulfil their roles in 2016.
It is part of a diverse range of events planned this year including a Student Exchange for Years 9-11 students during Founders Week when they can meet and network with fellow students from other Lasallian schools and from Sacred Heart Teachers College.
The broad calendar of events is a great credit to Dagia Aka who came into the role of Youth Minister after graduating last year from Jubilee Catholic Secondary School where he held the position of Vice Captain.
