Facilitated by Amanda Proulx, Br Gerard Rummery, Br John Cantwell, with guest presenter Philippa Hawke, Senior Researcher at yourtown
During the 25-27 March, twenty-one Lasallians from across Australia took part in the Lasallian Spirituality for Educators program, held at The Hermitage in Mittagong, New South Wales. The course is a yearly feature of the Formation calendar for the District of ANZPPNG, with this years theme focused on wellbeing.
Throughout the three-day course, participants from Lasallian schools, yourtown and Lasallian Mission Council staff members, all took part in fruitful sharing, contributing valuable input and thoughtful discussions. Philippa Hawke, Senior Researcher from yourtown, provided helpful context concerning contemporary research findings on the wellbeing of young people and best practices for promotion of wellbeing.
Brothers John Cantwell and Gerard Rummery led sessions which encompassed the Scriptural and Lasallian roots of wellbeing, particularly within the context of our Lasallian educational mission a reality which has always adapted to meet the current needs of real young people in each new context and period, spanning over 300 years.
Evaluations from the program proved a success among participants.
"A greater understanding of the Lasallian values, mission, and history. My wellbeing is just as important as our clients'. Encourage and empower."
Upon reflecting on the lessons learned, some said:
"Several key ideas on how to support young people, guide them in the right direction, depending on their needs."
"I am taking away a renewed sense of passion. Greater understanding of the partnership between the Lasallian Mission and the yourtown ethos. A sense of confidence in where our values stem from and how they have been implemented in the work we do."
