The Assistant Director of Formation with Lasallian Mission Services, Shane Dwyer has written a new online reflection program for the Advent season, The Face of Mercy.
The program has been written around the interrelationship between mercy and Advent with the Jubilee Year of Mercy commencing on 8 December.
You can sign up to the program by going to the Face of Mercy website.
Subscribers to the program will receive a daily email throughout Advent containing an extract from the Mass readings for that day and a short reflection on that extract relevant to Advent and the Year of Mercy.
They will also receive a quotation from Pope Francis concerning mercy and a concluding prayer.
It is a free service provided by the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn where Shane worked until recently as the Senior Coordinator for Faith Formation and Spirituality.
Shane says it is a resource aimed at helping busy people who want to set aside some personal time to reflect on the significance of the wonder of God's mercy and how that is incarnated in the person of Jesus Christ.
"People may want to take some time to read the prayers and readings at the start of their working day or print it off and take it to a prayer space or listen to a podcast on their drive into work or out for a morning walk", he explains.
Shane says it ties in well with the Lasallian injunction to pass on the Catholic faith in a variety of different ways and contexts.
He says there has been a very strong response to the resource and he is hoping to expand it next year to cover other important seasons in the Church year.
"What I've found in the past is that people get to Easter and ask themselves what happens next?", Shane says.
"They may have undertaken a program during Lent, but then there is lack of resources around the post-resurrection story and so I'm hoping to write a similar resource for Easter-tide in the period between Easter Sunday and Pentecost".
People who prefer to have the whole program printed off and mailed to them can call the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn office on 02 6163 4300 or email- firstname.lastname@example.org with no extra costs involved.
