Lions Youth of the Year

Lions Youth of the Year is a long standing and much respected competition for youth across Australia. About 2500 students participate each year. It consists of a panel interview with three judges, then delivery of a five-minute prepared speech and responding to two impromptu questions in front of an audience. It is excellent real-life experience as the public speaking and communication skills learned will serve them for a lifetime.

Bailey Parker, Southern Cross Catholc College, Scarborough, won the Lions Public Speaking award with a wonderful talk about the danger of cows! Heidi Leeman, , Southern Cross Catholc College, Scarborough, won the Lions Youth of the Year Award which combines both interview outcomes and speech. For the Lioness Club competition, Jessica Gracey, , Southern Cross Catholc College, Scarborough, won both events taking out Public Speaker and Lions Youth of the Year. Both Heidi and Jessica progress to Regional Finals this Saturday where they will compete against the winners from our other secondary schools in the area.

Congratulations to every student who stepped up to this significant challenge - Ashley Winnett, Liam Wade, Bailey Parker, Heidi Leeman, Ella Babarovich, Georgia Connell, Jasmine O'Dwyer, Jade Campbell and Jessica Gracey. All showed great leadership potential, supported and encouraged each other in their efforts and best of all, learned from and enjoyed the experience
