Young Lasallians from around Sydney have gathered for the launch of a new monthly group called Basic Monday, aimed at encouraging young adults to network and share their faith journey in a supportive environment.
The first meeting of the group was held on 6 September at the Provincial Office of the De La Salle Brothers in Bankstown.
The group reflected on a thought-provoking video clip, "A Catholic in a Court" which was produced by Paulist Evangelization Ministries for the Living Eucharist Lenten Series.
In the clip, a young Catholic adult Jenny Smith is challenged in the witness stand by lawyers to justify whether she is a Catholic or not and whether she is living by core Gospel values, challenging Christians to serve the poor and the needy.
The video triggered some strong group discussion amongst members of the BASIC group around how young adults can prove our faith in contemporary society and the importance of service as part of our everyday lives as Catholics.
After some time set aside for networking, the group finished with a prayer at the start of what is promising to be a great new initiative, aimed at keeping alumni from Lasallian schools connected with our rich charism well beyond their school years.
The monthly meeting will now be held on the 1st Monday evening of each month in the Provincial Offices at Bankstown.
Given there is a public holiday in Sydney next month, the BASIC group will instead meet on Tuesday 4 October.
