Oakhill ration challenge for Refugee Week 2017

From 18-25 June, a group of staff and students from Oakhill College will participate in the Act for Peace 'Ration Challenge' organised by the Australian Council of Churches. The group will be eating the same food rations as a Syrian refugee.

Staff member and organiser Gloria Alwan said; "This is such a humbling experience. The support teachers, students and our wider community are offering and pledging is truly remarkable. We have exceeded the $5000 target I set for us today and have currently raised an amazing $11,357.16. The conversations the students are having about the initiative in the yard is overwhelmingly positive.

We really do have amazing young people in our care that want to make a difference in our world."

This is an important initiative that has come from Oakhill4HumanRights who will now have to reset the financial goal that has already been exceeded.

The money raised will provide life-saving food, healthcare and education.
