Pakistani Brothers visit New Zealand Schools

Recently we visited the three Lasallian schools in New Zealand and the community at Mangere East and  would like to pen our experiences and learnings. We visited Francis Douglas Memorial College, New Plymouth, John Paul College Rotorua and De La Salle College Mangere East, spending a week in each place.  We must say that it was a fantabulous experience to be with the students and to spend some time with them all, in and out of the classrooms. We interacted and engaged with them through prepared presentations followed by some interactive activities. The following topics were discussed:

  • What is vocation
  • Different types of vocation
  • Life of St. La Salle
  • Lasallian mission in Pakistan
  • Brief history of Pakistan
  • Discernment and steps of making a decision
  • Retreat
  • Leadership qualities

It's very obvious that the presence of the Brothers in these schools is limited so it actually took time for us to adjust in this new environment. We are happy to share with you that in the beginning of the class the scenario was very different as we were very new to them perhaps but towards the end of the class  we had become acquainted with them all. We spent much of our time with the students while teaching, conducting the retreats and playing hand ball, rugby and basketball.

We are very sure that these students would be more interested in the life and mission of the Brothers, if they get to know more about the Brothers and the Lasallian mission. We could sense how open they were when we invited them to share the mission towards the end of each session. Many of them were more than happy to be a volunteer in sharing the Lasallian mission with us in future. We are very sure if the students see Brothers around them, they would definitely share the Lasallian Heritage and mission with us and the legacy would continue.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Br. Pat Lynch (Sector Coordinator) Br. Mark (Director) Bros. Waseem and Saddique for looking after us during our stay in NZ. Thanks to all the principals who allowed us to go to their colleges for the sessions. We highly appreciate their generosity and valuable contribution. We remember all the Brothers, Lasallian Volunteers, Principals, Staff and students in our prayers so that we, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary our Mother we may all have the spirit to share and spread the heritage and mission of St. John Baptist de La Salle to all entrusted to our care.
