Prayers for our Founder - Day Five

1691 September, Paris - JBDLS, Vuyart and Drolin pronounce the Heroic Vow.

After a retreat dedicated to prayer, the Founder and two of the most trusted Brothers, Nicholas Vuyart and Gabriel Drolin, expressed their fervent commitment to the schools in the following way.

"Most Holy Trinity, from this day and forever, we will live together to maintain the Christian Schools even though just the three of us remain and we see ourselves obliged to live on alms and have only bread to eat."

This most heroic of commitments sees the Founder, Nicholas and Gabriel vowing to keep the society alive no matter what the difficulty or obstacle. That the mission they had chosen was God's mission, and so, could not fail.

Let us remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God

Lord Jesus,

I give you my hands to do your work. I give you my feet to go your way.

I give you my tongue to speak your words.

I give you my mind that you may think in me. I give you my spirit that you may pray in me.

Above all, I give you my heart that you may love in me your Father and all mankind.

I give you my whole self that you may grow in me, so that it is you, Lord Jesus, who live and work and pray in me.

Take all my freedom, my memory, my understanding, and my will.

All that I have and cherish you have given me. Like John Baptist De La Salle, I surrender it all to be guided by your will.

Your grace and your love are wealth enough for me. Give me these, Lord Jesus, and I ask for nothing more.
