See below message from Brother Robert Schieler FSC, Superior General
Dear Lasallian Family,
I would like to share some personal news with you.
An annual routine medical check-up in the United States indicated that I had a high liver count (elevated liver enzymes). As recommended by my doctor, I had an ultra sound and MRI in the first half of February. These tests indicated the possibility of cancer in the liver. I then returned to the USA for consultation at a leading hospital for treating liver cancer. The doctor confirmed cancer in one area of the liver.
The good news is the cancer is limited to that one area and none has spread to any other organs of the body. ln the coming weeks, I will receive out-patient treatment to destroy the cancer cells. Eventually, a liver transplant will be necessary, and the doctors will be determining the timeline in the coming months. The doctors are confident the treatment will be successful. This confidence is based on my overall general health and the fact that the cancer was detected in its early stages.I am in very good spirits and continue to be engaged in the strategic direction and decisions of the lnstitute. During this time of treatment, I will remain in close contact with the Vicar General and the General Council,as I have asked them to be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the lnstitute.
I invite you to you include me in your prayers.
