It is with great sadness that former Star of the Sea Principal, Sr Patricia Carroll pbvm died late Saturday (10 February) afternoon, after a short illness.
Patricia Carroll pbvm was born in Mudgegonga in 1927. The eldest of five children, she worked on the family farm during the war years before entering the Presentation order in 1946. Her long association with Star of the Sea began in 1949 when she came to Star and taught in outlying schools.
In 1965, Patricia established Avila College in Mount Waverley. In 1971 and 1972, as Principal of Star of the Sea, she established the School Board and was an active member until 2013. She was Principal of Star again in 1979.
During the 1980's, Patricia was Principal at Presentation College, Moe where she taught history, maths, Italian and French. After ten years at Moe, Patricia was responsible for Property Management and Community Quality Assurance for the Presentation Sisters.
She has made a significant contribution to the administration pertaining to the Star of the Sea Convent where she has spent most of her years as a Presentation Sister.
In the book, A Call for New Times, Patricia reflected:
" A new chapter is opening in our lives and yours, in new and vital ways, giving fresh impetus to new life and mission.
May all Staff and Students be guided by the spirit of Nano Nagle and generations of Presentation Sisters, Staff and Past Students in upholding the legacy of our founding grace and the Presentation life of love in the years ahead.
Facta Non Verba - Deeds not Words - and Love in Action are as relevant now as they ever were."
Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of the soul of Sister Patricia Carroll pbvm will be celebrated at Star of the Sea College Chapel, Presentation Place, Brighton (off Martin Street) on TUESDAY (Feb. 12, 2019) at 12.00 noon.
Following light refreshments in Star Centre, burial will take place at Melbourne General Cemetery, College Crescent, Parkville at 3.00 p.m.
Sr Maria spoke really fondly of Sr Patricia, as a gifted educator who was passionate about girls having a say and making a difference. Sr Patricia was the last surviving Presentation sister who had been Principal of Star, and so another tangible piece of our history and connection with the sisters has gone.
The Patricia Carroll Auditorium is named in her honour.
