SO WHAT IS THE LASALLIAN MISSION COUNCIL?

In 2012 the Chapter of the District of Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Papua New Guinea unanimously supported a proposal to change the manner in which the Lasallian Mission is governed and conducted within the District.  This resolution led to the creation of the Lasallian Mission Council (LMC) which assumed responsibility for mission-focussed responsibilities throughout the District. Of great significance was the stipulation that at least 50% of Directors of LMC were to be lay partners.

The creation of the LMC was intended to strengthen and the association between the Brothers and those engaged with them their mission, ensuring that there is real co-responsibility in leadership and decision-making as they work towards the integration of the various Lasallian works.  The focus of the LMC is to ensure the sustainability of the Lasallian Mission so that the needs of the young, and especially those who are at the margins, can continue to be met.

The District Council, which is made up of Brothers and led by the Brother Visitor, continues to play an instrumental and pivotal leadership role within the District.  Its primary focus is to assist and advise the Brother Visitor in his leadership of the District and to ensure that work of the Brothers continues to flourish. It also works to provide support for the personal and spiritual well-being and development of the Brothers.  The Brother Visitor also occupies an important leadership role within the LMC, providing guidance, support and advice to the Directors.

The Lasallian Mission Services (LMS) is the executive arm of the LMC.  LMS has the responsibility for enacting the policies, decisions and directions of LMC and works closely with the various work and ministries within the District to support them in their commitment and realization of the Lasallian Mission.

The current Directors of the Lasallian Mission Council are:

  • Wayne Bull (AFSC) Chair
  • Br Chris Gorringe (FSC) Deputy Chair

  • Jill Gowdie
  • Br Sir Pat Lynch (FSC)
  • Merv McCormack (Executive Director of LMS)

Additionally, executive support is provided to LMC by:

  • Julie Alibrandi LMS Director of Operations
  • Peter Cartwright LMC Company Secretary
