For many years, through the efforts of our Mission Action Day, St James College has been providing support to the staff and students of LaSalle Technical College in Hohola.
This year a portion of the fund raising efforts were used to send Mr Francis Cormick (English Teacher) and myself, Patrick Janes (Deputy Principal and Mathematics Teacher) to visit the College and to work in a practical way with both students and staff.
Francis and I taught one lesson of English and Mathematics respectively to all Grade 9 and Grade 10 classes as well as running a staff Professional Learning Session on the Lasallian,12 Virtues of a Good Teacher and how they relate to the modern day classroom.
The staff and students warmly welcomed us as members of their community as did the Lasallian Brothers Community where we stayed.
We also had the opportunity to visit De La Salle Bomana, where we were warmly received by the school and the Brother's community where we all shared dinner.
As teachers, this was a truly valuable experience and a perfect example of the larger Lasallian Family working together. Connections between both schools were strengthened and friendships made.
The St James College Community is looking forward to continuing and building upon this experience in the years to come
