St Michael's College celebrate International Women's Day

On Friday 9 March, 60 students and 23 staff members gathered in the Mary MacKillop Centre at St Michael's College to celebrate International Women's Day.The College were privileged to share the occasion with Mrs Rosanna Karnas, Director - Research and Development of Mayne Pharma, who generously gave her time.

Mrs Karnas spoke humbly and honestly about her career and her life journey, discussing the opportunities, challenges and inspirations that have influenced her along the way. She highlighted the fact that everyone can determine their own future, as long as we follow our passions, work hard, and excel in our chosen field, developing true grit and the ability to contribute positively to life and humanity.

Mrs Karnas spoke of her gratitude for the opportunities she had been afforded, for the inspiration significant teachers had provided as a result of their generous and infectious passion for their subject area and for the possibility of making a difference to the lives of others.

She acknowledged the changing gender dynamics of her field and the challenges associated with balancing a career and family life. She also discussed a perspective of valuing the vast contributions that women make in this situation on both fronts: home and career.

Staff and students left the gathering feeling incredibly empowered and united in spirit by Mrs Karnas' message.
