Statement from the De La Salle Brothers - 14 September 2018

Posted on 14 September 2018

The De La Salle Brothers issued the following comments after the sentencing of Mr Steven Gray in relation to offences committed at the former Boystown Beaudesert where he was employed as a lay teacher.

The abuse of any child is an abhorrent act and represents an unconscionable breach of trust.

To those who suffered as a result of the criminal actions of Mr Steven Gray we apologise unreservedly for what has occurred.

Children deserving only of care and protection had their trust betrayed and for that we are profoundly sorry.

To all those who have experienced abuse as children, we extend our care and compassion and recognise the lifelong effects such events continue to have.

Any person seeking assistance from the De la Salle Brothers can contact our Professional Standards Office on (02) 9795 6400.

Anyone possessing any information regarding criminal behaviour no matter how long ago should report that to their local police or by contacting Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
