Statement from the De La Salle Brothers Australia - Frank Keating

Posted by Br David Hawke on 21 April 2018

To all in our Lasallian Community,

I am saddened to write to you again to address the terrible legacy of abuse that we readily acknowledge is a part of our history.

A former Brother, Frank Keating, was sentenced in Melbourne for crimes committed against children during his time at De La Salle Malvern between 1969 and 1977.

These criminal acts represent the most profound betrayal of trust of those children.

We recognise that the effects of the sexual abuse of children can often be lifelong and cause enormous pain and suffering for those abused, their families and loved ones.

For this we are unreserved in our apology.

The revelation of past failures in how these matters were responded to has been another distressing but necessary part of our history to accept and we do so with deep sorrow.

To the victims who have suffered so greatly, to their families and loved ones, we extend our enduring apology for what has taken place.

Please find attached a public statement on this matter.

Yours sincerely

Br David Hawke FSC - Provincial
