Members of the Social Justice Club at Jubilee Catholic Secondary School in Port Moresby have gained a valuable insight into volunteer work on a medical ship providing support to remote communities in Papua New Guinea.
Students at the coeducational Lasallian school were given a guided tour of the Training and Medical Ship, MV YWAM PNG, which regularly provides outreach visits to far-flung parts of PNG.
The ship is looking towards recruiting volunteers across a range of areas, whether they be cleaners or cooks through to engineers, dentists, doctors and paramedics.
Jubilee Secondary students were shown around the ship which includes an onboard dentistry clinic, with plans to also build a laboratory and operating theatre.
It was a highly rewarding excursion for the students with many now expressing a keen interest in getting more involved in the volunteer programs on offer.
