The Function of Prayer

The Function of Prayer

The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather change the nature of the one who prays.

"You must devote yourself very thoroughly to prayer in order to succeed in your ministry."

(Med 196.1)

Prayer for a Lasallian School

Prayer for a Lasallian School
Dear Lord, As we gather here today we give thanks for our strong sense of community, for the joy of human life, its wonders and surprises, its hopes and achievements. May  we 'touch hearts' and inspire others with the Christian spirit. As students, may we be filled with a desire to learn and to do our best in all aspects of school life. May we as a School, live out Your message and with God as our leader, commit to excellence in every aspect...

Faith Without Works

Faith Without Works
Lord, Not to make a distinction Between work in school and saving our souls, Is to be a good professional teacher And a living witness to Jesus of Nazareth. To integrate faith with culture, And faith with life, is to be a Christian teacher. "Faith without works is dead". "All knowledge, all faith, are nothing without charity." Live Jesus in our hearts!

A Teacher's Mission

A Teacher's Mission

Thank you, Lord,

For wanting to continue your work of salvation

Through our work in schools;

To teach selflessly is a path to salvation.

On completing our mission,

We say: "Thank you, Lord."

To be a Christian teacher,

Is to educate the whole person;

It is to teach in the Spirit of Christianity;

It is to strengthen the will to do good.

Amen.

Guided by the Spirit

Guided by the Spirit

"This is why you must ask him earnestly that all your instruction be given life by his Spirit

and draw all their power from him.

Just as he is the one who enlightens everyone coming into the world,

he also is the one who enlightens the minds of your students

and leads them to love and to practice the good that you teach them."

(Meditations for the Time of Retreat, 195, 3).

Filled with Zeal

Filled with Zeal
If you want the instructions you give those whom you have to instruct to be effective in drawing them to the practice of good, you must practice these truths yourselves, and you must be full of zeal, so that your students may be able to receive a share of grace which is in you for doing good, and that your zeal draw upon you the Spirit of God to animate your students in the same way. (MTR, 194, 3). Live Jesus in our hearts!   ...
