"Prosperity through Christian Values in Education"
Lasallians in Papua New Guinea will be joining Lasallians from around the world to give thanks for our common heritage, renew our commitment to respond to the educational needs of today's youth and share our hope for the future of the mission.
The theme "Prosperity through Christian Values in Education" is a mishmash of the 2019 Lasallian theme "Great Things are Possible", and the Papua New Guinea Education theme "Citizenship and Christian Values in Education."
There will be three major events to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Saint John Baptist de La Salle's entry into eternal life and the impact of the mission in Papua New Guinea.
An Opening Mass will be held on Friday 22nd of February at De La Salle Secondary School, Bomana, NCD. Other masses will be held on the same day at Wewak, Goroka, Mt. Hagen, Aitape, Madang, Alotau and Vanimo where the Lasallian Family members have spread. The Mass planned for NCD anticipates the participation of 4000 students and over 300 staff. The main celebrant will be the Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency, Archbishop Kurian Mathew Vayalunka. Br David Hawke and the French Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Philippe Janvier Kamiyam, are among some of the special guests who will be in attendance.
The National Gathering will be held from Sunday 30th June to Wednesday 3rd July at La Salle Technical College, Hohola, Port Moresby. This event expects to bring together more than 500 Lasallian educators, students, alumni and stakeholders from all over Papua New Guinea with participants from Australia and New Zealand. The National Gathering will have:
A three-part musical of the Life of the Founder
Two keynote speeches
Two sub-keynote addresses
Eight different workshops
One combined paraliturgy, and
One combined Eucharistic Celebration.
The Closing Mass for the Tercentenary year will be held on Friday 20th September at Jubilee Catholic Secondary School, NCD. Other Masses will be held in Wewak, Goroka, Mt. Hagen, Aitape, Madang, Kimbe, Atitape and Vanimo on the same day.
It is an exciting year for all Lasallians in Papua New Guinea as everyone is already working together in the spirit of "One Heart, One Commitment and One Life" to prepare for these three events.
Saint John Baptist De La Salle, Pray for Us.
