This year I have initiated the De La Salle Shield to acknowledge and celebrate a member of our community who has shown outstanding service and zeal towards their work with the College. This award will be given to one recipient a year.
It is my great pleasure to announce that the inaugural De La Salle Shield award is to Br Sir Pat Lynch.
Br Sir Pat is our treasure, our taonga.
He is a local boy who grew up in Papatoetoe and attended De La Salle as a foundation student in 1953.
Br Sir Pat joined the De La Salle Brothers after leaving school.
He was the Principal here from 1979 to 1993 and probably taught many fathers who are Old Boys at De La Salle.
Br Sir Pat is passionate about Catholic Education and was the CEO of NZ Catholic Education for 22 years based in Wellington. Br Sir Pat has been in semi-retirement over the last 4 years, however his work load does not seem to have lessened.
Br Sir Pat continues to serve our College by being on the Board of Trustees and we are grateful for his knowledge and enormous experience that he selflessly contributes to De La Salle and the running of our College.
Br Sir Pat has huge reserves of energy which I am always amazed by, he serves as a Trustee on the Boards of 4 other Catholic schools spread over New Zealand and Australia and he faithfully makes every one of those BOT meetings, always cheerfully contributing his skills with such selflessness and concern for the education of the students.
Br Sir Pat reminds us of the 4 values that form the foundation of the Lasallian Order and our own.
He is a man of immense Faith, Service, Community and Excellence.
Br Sir Pat, we are indeed the fortunate ones to have had you as part of OUR Lasallian Community for the last 50 years.
On behalf of De La Salle thank you for your constant care and concern for your old College, you are an outstanding example to Staff, students and families of unconditional support, tireless energy and devotion to your faith.
We are proud and privileged to call you "OURS" and we share in the significance of this award.
