Vale Br Gerald Scott - Old Boy Asfield

We were saddened at the beginning of the our school year to hear of the passing of a distinguished old boy of De La Salle College Ashfield, Father Gerald Scott CM, aged 88 years. Father Gerald and his younger brother Fr Bernard Scott (deceased) both entered the Vincentian fathers upon leaving school at DLS.

Gerald and Bernard were two of nine children of Ellen and James Scott. All attended school at St Vincents, Bethlehem and De La Salle. The Scott family were stalwarts of St Vincent's parish and its school community. The extended Scott family involvement in the Ashfield community stretched across six decades, from the 1920s to the 1970s.

I was informed of Father Scott's passing by his nephew, Dr Julian Neylan another distinguished Old Boy of the College who remembered his uncle thus:-

"Fr Gerald was a veritable man of the people and a great uncle. The College can be rightly proud of their Old Boy."

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Scott family.
