Today in History -1st Day of School in Malvern

The new community was founded with Brothers from Ireland and comprised Brothers Dunstan Drumm (Director), Leopold Loughran and Jerome Foley. The group sailed for Australia on Christmas Day 1911 and arrived in Melbourne on 4 February 1912. They began teaching the following day. The promised school building had not yet been completed which meant that the Brothers commenced teaching 54 pupils in the parish hall. The new school in Stanhope Street West was ready for occupation immediately after the Easter holidays and was officially blessed and opened on the Tuesday after Easter by Archbishop Thomas Carr. The Brothers quickly settled into a routine, with the chronicler of the house history quickly covering the first few years of the foundation
