Breaking New Ground: La Salle Boys’ High School Khushpur's Educational Mission in Action

In the heart of Punjab, La Salle Boys' High School Khushpur stands as a beacon of hope and transformation, embodying the De La Salle Brothers' commitment to providing quality education to those most in need. Since its establishment in 2004, the school has evolved from a modest high school to an inclusive educational institution. In 2010, responding to community needs, the school expanded to include a primary section for both boys and girls, marking an important step in promoting Catholic education in the area.

Under the leadership of Br. Zohaib Gill, FSC, the school has embarked on a holistic approach to education that combines academic excellence with spiritual formation and environmental stewardship. The school year has been marked by numerous initiatives reflecting the Lasallian mission —to provide a human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor.

The 2024-25 academic year commenced on April 4th with a momentous celebration filled with anticipation and excitement. The general assembly brought together returning and new students, setting a foundation of unity and optimism for the year ahead. Later that month, the school welcomed Br. Chris Patiño, General Councilor, accompanied by Br. Sajid Bashir, Pakistan Sector Coordinator. Br. Chris praised the school's work as a 'Leavening Project,' recognising its vital role in providing quality education at the peripheries.

The school's commitment to academic transformation is evident in its comprehensive approach to student development. Monthly tests and parent-teacher meetings ensure continuous monitoring of student progress, while various competitions—from spelling bees to science quizzes—foster a spirit of healthy competition and learning. The Annual Result Day showcased this commitment, with special recognition given to students achieving A+ grades and perfect attendance, demonstrating the school's emphasis on academic achievement and consistent engagement.

May 15th marked a particularly meaningful occasion as the school celebrated La Salle Day, also known as Founder's Day. The community came together in unity and solidarity to honour the rich heritage and enduring values of the Lasallian Institute. This special day provided an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Saint John Baptist de La Salle and to reaffirm the school's commitment to faith, service, and community. Through various activities and gatherings, students and staff demonstrated their connection to the global Lasallian family and their dedication to continuing the educational mission begun by De La Salle.

The spiritual dimension of school life was highlighted with the Paschal Blessing ceremony led by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Nadeem John Shakir. This sacred tradition marked the Easter season, bringing the community together in prayer and reflection. May brought another significant celebration with La Salle Day, where the community honored the legacy of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, reaffirming their commitment to faith, service, and community.

August marked a period of professional development for teachers with the In-Service Programme, which demonstrated the school's commitment to educational excellence. The programme, led by the Leadership Team, focused on enhancing teaching methodologies and student engagement strategies. The school also celebrated Pakistan's Independence Day on August 13th, uniting the community in a patriotic spirit and reinforcing the values of national pride and citizenship.

September opened with a poignant commemoration of Defence Day, where students and staff honoured Pakistan's brave heroes. Through special presentations and ceremonies, the school community celebrated the courage and resilience of those who sacrificed for the nation's freedom, instilling lasting values of patriotism in students' hearts.

Early October saw the school community unite in a meaningful celebration of International Lasallian Peace Day combined with Environmental Day. Themed "Sowing the Seeds of Peace," ILDP saw students engaging in meaningful activities that connected faith with action. The regular visits from religious leaders, including the Parish Priest's blessing of the school and the notable visit of Br. Armin Luistro, the Superior General, reinforces the school's spiritual foundation.

Students channelled their creativity through poster-making activities that promoted peace and environmental stewardship. The event took on practical dimensions as the Leadership Team initiated a tree plantation drive on the school grounds, demonstrating their commitment to creating a sustainable future. In a touching display of community outreach, the School Youth Group extended this environmental mission by planting trees in the local graveyard, creating a powerful symbol of the connection between life, peace, and environmental care. These activities exemplified the school's dedication to fostering both environmental consciousness and peace-building among students while making tangible contributions to community well-being.

On October 5th, the school hosted both International Teachers' Day celebrations and an engaging Bible Quiz. While teachers were honoured for their dedication, students from classes 5 through 8 showcased their scripture knowledge with remarkable enthusiasm. Later in October, the school's athletic aspirations were celebrated with the distribution of sports kits to the football and badminton teams, preparing them for the upcoming Inter La Salle Sports 2K24.

The Feast of Guardian Angels began with a special gathering of staff and prefects. During the Feast, staff and students demonstrated their community spirit by cleaning and decorating the village streets for the procession, embodying the school's commitment to faith in action. This was followed by an exciting Spelling Bee competition, graced by Chief Guest Sr. Parveen Sardar OP and distinguished guests.

As La Salle Khushpur continues its journey of growth and service, these varied celebrations and activities reflect its unwavering commitment to providing a holistic education that nurtures both academic excellence and spiritual growth. Through these experiences, the school continues to fulfil its mission of transforming lives through education, sustained by faith, and energising its mission of service to others.

The leadership at La Salle Boys High School is committed to ongoing improvement. These plans ensure that the legacy of Lasallian education continues to flourish in Khushpur for generations to come.

At present a work is in progress to construct a well-functioning science laboratory to meet the hands-on learning needs of the students. This will also allow teachers to make learning experience of the students more interesting and meaningful.

Provision of clean drinking water to our students and staff is another hope for the near future. The basic yet sophisticated water plant will allow us to fulfill this essential need of our school. Basic sanitation and hygiene of the students and staff is a fundamental responsibility of any school or institution. There is a need to renovate the existing and construct a few new washrooms for students and staff. The school is trying its best to meet some of its urgent needs from its tuition fee income but, is dependent on the help and generosity of our Lasallian friends for meeting these pressing basic needs and making La Salle Khushpur more conducive to safeguarding and learning of those entrusted to our care.

These developments align perfectly with the Lasallian Foundation’s mission to promote equitable and high-quality education for all young people, regardless of their background.

The Lasallian Foundation’s support has not only revitalised the physical structure of La Salle Boys’ High School but has also strengthened the sense of community and educational advancement in Khushpur. As the school continues to evolve, it stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the belief that every child deserves access to quality education.
