 Naidoc Week and LYG

Let us Remember - Naidoc Week and LYG

‘Let us remember' is a prayer and reflection resource offered to Lasallian schools and works. It might be used for individual prayer and reflection or at the beginning of team/faculty meetings, staff briefings or whole staff meetings. There will be a different focus for each reflection and over time a library of prayers and reflections will be developed for use.

Today’s focus is: “Naidoc Week and LYG”

As we approach the half way point of the year there are two significant celebrations. The first in the Australian context,  is NADIOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Observance Committee) Week, celebrated 3 - 10 July. The theme for 2022 is “Australians Together”. Originally, this began as a single day celebration on the first Sunday in July in 1956. In 1975, this was expanded to the entire week and thus NAIDOC week was born. In 1991, it expanded to included Torres Strait Islander people and cultures.

Secondly, our District is hosting a Lasallian Youth Gathering, which invited all corners of the District to gather in Sydney from July 6-9 with the Young Lasallians Team “Regathering” prior on July 4-6. The theme for this gathering and is “Walking New Paths”. This the first in-person gathering taking place as a District after many postponements, cancellations and pivoting.
