Life Support

For the first time in the Sector of Papua New Guinea, the support staff of three Lasallian Schools in Port Moresby met for a one-day of recollection.

A total of 32 support staff from Jubilee Catholic Secondary School,  De La Salle Secondary School,  and La Salle Technical Secondary School met at Keaga house at Bomana for a retreat with the theme 'A good shepherd'.

This retreat aimed to affirm and acknowledge their indispensable contribution to the mission of human and Christain Education.  The retreat comprised of 4 sessions facilitated by Grace Wrakia, Br. Paul Toohey and Br. Alf Zoanetti.

The retreat started with introductory exercises that helped loosen up the participants and opened up a way for introductions and dialogue. The next session was presented by Br. Paul on the founding story of the Lasallian Education,  dating back to France,  more than 300 years ago. Br. Alf connected this history story to the current reality of Lasallian Characteristics of our school. Br. Alf emphasized the spirit of Faith and Zeal.

Grace ended the retreat with a workshop on 'Making Our Schools a Safe Learning Environment'.  This last session captured the participants' attention and prompted more discussions about Child Protection in their workplace.

The participants expressed gratitude for the retreat; they requested more opportunities to learn about the Lasallian heritage and further build their community as support staff in Lasallian Schools.

The day was well spent, the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, and the participants were intrigued by everything they learnt and experienced. As support staff, they are the lifeline of our school operations and taking time out to pray, learn and build their community is invaluable.

They reaffirmed and appreciated their roles and, more so, the legacy of the De La Salle Brothers in PNG, especially in the schools they work in.

St. John Baptist De La Salle.. pray for us.
Live Jesus in our Hearts.
