Message from Br Visitor: Bringing New Hope into the New Year

Dear Lasallians,

As we reflect upon our previous year, let us remember the times we spent putting others before ourselves. How often did you help a stranger, a loved one, or anyone in need without expecting something back?

In his Pastoral Letter, the Superior General encourages us to use our stories to create conversation and inspire others. Our stories can trigger deeper reflection, inspire some to pray, or encourage others to take action. As Elie Wiesel reminds us, "God made human beings because God loves stories."

It's important to remember that although we should be taking care of ourselves and our needs, we should also do what we can to help those less fortunate. In our community, many people do their part in helping those who are less fortunate. We have those who provide education, meals, an ear to listen, and those who spread the message of God in times when hope seems lost.

The Leavening project encourages us to renew our vocation based on what we are and what we want to be, identifying the best of our history and setting in motion a transformative movement of what we are called to be.

Today we celebrate 'World Day of Consecrated Life'. The Vatican reminds us, "Mission leads us to the fullness of our Christian Vocation; it gives us the opportunity to return to God's style that is closeness, compassion and tenderness."

We all have the power to create change for the better and spread the message of eternal hope to everyone. The Report of the 46th General Chapter calls us to "build now paths to transform lives". We are encouraged to be the bearer of hope, to be dynamic and open to new initiatives and to be sensitive to the needs of those on the human peripheries.

I encourage you to look at the texts mentioned above and read the powerful message each one has. How can you incorporate these messages into your life and your ministry?  If one or more of them inspires you to act, then trust that "God has chosen you to do his work" (St John Baptist de La Salle).

I take this time to thank you for your continued work in providing a human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor. "May the fruits of the tree that we have planted and nurtured together be abundant and sweet." (Report of the 46th General Chapter)
